The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body that correspond to nerve ganglia branching out from the spinal column, as well as states of consciousness, developmental stages of life, archetypal elements, body functions, colors, sounds, and much, much more. Together they form a profound formula for wholeness and a template for transformation.

The Chakra system is one of many that offers a common language and a belief structure. It can be a way for people to connect with their own nature and express it to others, so that healing can be supported and communicated in common terms. I have worked with many bodies that speak to me in terms of Chakras even when the person has never heard of them. So, if you work with bodies and energy (and you do because that is what it is to be human) you may find it helpful to learn a little about the chakra system. Beginning January, I will offer a series of healing events based on the chakra system and the dynamics it represents in the human body. Check back here for an overview of the 7 embodied chakras, in a series of posts
